Hello, I'm Fiston Banza.
Data. Analytics. Investigation. Compliance. Judgement.
About Me
More than a job
A career shaped by curiosity, people and problems worth solving
Four principles that guide my work
Understand Before Solving
Complex problems rarely improve until they're properly understood. Asking the right questions is often more valuable than rushing toward an answer.
Look Beyond the obvious
The first answer isn't always the complete answer
Make complexity useful
Whether evaluating a claim, interpreting a regulation, or analyzing data, the best decisions are grounded in evidence and supported by facts.
Build Something Better
I enjoy finding opportunities to improve processes, uncover insights, and create practical solutions through data, technology, and thoughtful design
How I think
What I Do
Insurance. Compliance. Investigations. Data.
While the responsibilities vary, the goal remains the same: helping organizations understand complex information, manage risk, and make better decisions.
Regulatory compliance
Fraud & Investigations
Data Analysis & Reporting
I manage regulatory data calls from initial review through final submission, monitoring state DOI bulletins, interpreting requirements, determining applicability, and responding directly to regulators. My work spans all 50 states and Puerto Rico, including regulatory follow-up, information requests, and variance inquiries.
I support fraud investigations, SIU operations, anti-fraud reporting, regulatory referrals, and insurer fraud program requirements. My investigative background began in claims and continues today through fraud analysis, regulatory compliance, and investigative oversight.
I use data to make complex information easier to monitor, understand, and act upon. Through analytics, Power BI solutions, reporting, and trend analysis, I help transform data into insights that support compliance, investigations, and operational decision-making
Professionally
Process Improvement
I help translate complex regulatory and operational requirements into practical, repeatable processes. My focus is on improving consistency, visibility, and efficiency through better workflows, documentation, reporting, and technology.
My Projects
Things I have built
Sometimes the best way to understand a problem is to build something around it.
Some projects begin with a business need. Others begin with a dataset and a question I want to answer. Both give me an opportunity to combine subject-matter knowledge, analytical thinking, and technology.

Independent Projects
Along the way some work leaves a mark.
79% → 90%: Helped improve California SIU audit performance from 79% to 90% through stronger processes, controls, documentation, and training.
$379K+: Identified approximately $379,000 in fraudulent payments through investigative work.
$1M+: Investigative work contributed to identifying a fraud matter involving more than $1 million in multi-carrier exposure.
80+ People: Developed and delivered recurring fraud-awareness education to more than 80 employees.
The numbers are useful, but they're only part of the story. I'm most proud of work that solves a real problem, helps someone make a better decision, or leaves a process stronger than I found it.
My journey
Different roles, different perspective
Corporate Compliance Analyst, Data & Operation
My current role sits at the intersection of regulatory compliance, fraud investigation, and insurance operations. I monitor regulatory developments, manage data-call reporting, support SIU investigations, and help ensure compliance across multiple insurance entities. Increasingly, I focus on leveraging data and technology to improve operational visibility, including analytical solutions for SIU activity and corporate oversight
Casualty Claim Analyst
My experience handling multiline and casualty claims helped me develop a thoughtful, investigative approach to problem-solving. From coverage determinations and estimate reviews to fraud detection and third-party claim settlements, I learned how to analyze complex information, make informed decisions, and communicate them effectively.
As my career progressed, I took on increasingly complex casualty claims that required deeper technical analysis and strategic decision-making. Through investigations, coverage evaluations, bodily injury negotiations, litigation management, reserving, and claim resolution, I developed a strong ability to assess risk, navigate complex issues, and drive fair outcomes for all parties involved.
Casualty Claim Specialist II, Claim Technical
Experience
My insurance career started in liability claims, where I learned the importance of investigation, communication, and sound judgment. Working directly with insureds, claimants, and repair professionals, I evaluated evidence, reviewed estimates, conducted recorded statements, and helped resolve claims fairly and efficiently. The experience taught me how to navigate difficult situations, communicate with empathy, and make informed decisions under pressure.

Before Insurance, I learned to listen
Long before insurance, there were toys and computers. Some of my earliest lessons about working with people came from jobs that had nothing to do with insurance.
At Toys "R" Us, part of the job was helping a child walk away excited about a new toy while making sure Mom or Dad felt just as good about the purchase. It was an early lesson that the same situation can look very different depending on the perspective of the person experiencing it.
Later, at Best Buy, I traded toys for computers and technology. As a Sales Consultant, I learned that a good recommendation wasn't about finding the most expensive or technically impressive product.
It started with asking questions.
What are you trying to accomplish?
How will you use it?
What matters most to you?
Only then could I help someone find the right solution. Those roles may have come long before my insurance career, but the lessons stayed with me:
Listen first. Understand what matters. Then find a way to help.
Today, the problems I work on are far more complex, but that principle remains the same
Where it started
Beyond the resume
Outside of work
There's more to life than insurance, data, and spreadsheets. Outside of work, I enjoy cooking, exploring technology, building things, traveling, and learning simply because something interests me.
Cooking
I enjoy getting into the kitchen, experimenting, and figuring out how to make something better the next time around. There's something satisfying about turning a collection of ingredients into a meal that brings people together around a table.
Technology
Technology interested me long before it became part of my professional toolkit. I still enjoy exploring new tools, understanding how things work, and following where technology is headed. Curiosity is what first drew me to technology, and it's still what keeps me engaged today.
Building Things
Sometimes it's a dashboard. Sometimes it's a business idea. Sometimes it's something completely unrelated. I enjoy taking an idea from "What if?" to something tangible. The process of creating, improving, and solving problems is often just as rewarding as the end result.
Travel
Travel gives me the opportunity to experience new places, cultures, and perspectives. It's a reminder that there are many different ways to live, work, and think. Every trip is a chance to learn something new and see the world from a different point of view.
Education & Tool
Master of Science, 2023| Information Technology Management| WSC
Bachelor of Science| Computer Science & Inf. System Management| ESCU
Tools & Technology
Analytics & BI: Power BI · Tableau
Data: Snowflake · SQL · Excel · Power Query
Programming: Python (intermediate)
Insurance & Investigation
ISO ClaimSearch · NICB · LexisNexis. ServiceNow
I've worked with a variety of platforms and tools throughout my career, but I view them as exactly that: tools. The technology may change, but the ability to define a problem, analyze information, and identify a practical solution remains constant.
Tools change. The ability to understand the problem they're meant to solve matters more.
The practical stuff

Hello,
Thanks for stopping by.
If you've made it this far, you probably know considerably more about me than you would from a two-page résumé.
I'm always interested in meeting thoughtful people, exchanging ideas, and hearing about meaningful opportunities, whether they involve insurance, compliance, investigations, analytics, technology, or something I haven't considered yet.
